Red Herring - Demo 2006

I played with this band on one of the coolest days of my life. Acts of Sedition (my punk band) was on tour with Surrender (a band comprised of some of my favorite people in life) and we were playing in Portland, OR on 6/13/2007. It also happened that two other tours from the Bay Area were coming through Portland on the same day. So we organized a show in a park with Massive Meat Split (pre-Transient, Jazzy weird metal punk), David Copperfuck, Hey Girl, Les Incompetents, Upshit Creek, and Connie Fucking Francis. A lot of our friends also decided to go traveling around the same time. Basically, Oakland had a party in Portland and it was rad. After the show in the park, we each had our separate shows in the same part of town about 10 blocks away from each other and Red Herring played the show with the above bands. They interested me because they were a punk band without the standard punk instrumentation. And they still killed it. Red Herring involves heavy tuba and banjo usage. It's sometimes dancey, sometimes weirdly timed, but always interesting. Check this out.

Parasites Go - Demo 2006

This band from the lovely city of Orinda brings to mind lots of seminal punk bands such as Operation Ivy, Black Flag and The Descendants. They worked really hard and played quite a few local shows, going on one tour (that I know of) and then breaking up. They are still active in Bay Area Punk and will be for a while to come. Download this shit.

Black Mast - Demo 2006

Black Mast was a band from Syracuse, NY that I had the pleasure of playing with in a garage in Lake Oswego, NY. Their drummer was amazing, their pace was quick as fuck and they were heavy. This demo just makes me wish I could see them live again. Members of Black SS.

Protestant - Why Pray For Salvation? demo

Protestant from Milwaukee, WI are awesome. They've got a bunch of newer releases out and seem to be the kind of band that just won't quit. Heavy, fast, dissonant...Check it out.

The Separation - Demo 2007

The Separation were a chaotic hardcore band from Redding, CA. Their city sucked and as a result, they made some of the most intense music I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying. They take some cues from Catharsis and Neurosis, but their background in bands comes from the 90s hardcore sounds of bands like Trial. Really good, and unfortunately, they just ended their run as a band. Check this out, and if you like it, buy their full length!

Transient - s/t 7"

Portland, OR kick ass grind. Proof that grind doesn't have to be constantly fast to be brutal. Check them out and their many new split releases with other bands such as This Runs On Blood, Superbad and Sale Sangre.

We Need To Talk - Winter Tour 2007 - 2008 Demo

From Metarie/Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Fast thrashy hardcore with lots of heavy thrown in. Great female vocals and some really deep guttural grunts too. Enjoy.

And it begins...

This is my attempt to share some of the amazing music that I've had the great fortune of happening upon in my years as a punk. Demos that I've collected on tour, albums that bands local to me have put out that never left the San Francisco Bay Area, live shows from local heroes and more... I hope you enjoy it.
